In short. Everything MyQuoteboard itself provides is suitable for all ages. But the content in the app is written by the people using it, and we do not review submissions before they appear. Because that content can't be guaranteed, MyQuoteboard is intended for people aged 13 and over.
This page explains how we arrived at our age rating, for anyone assessing whether MyQuoteboard is appropriate for a particular audience.
What the app itself contains
MyQuoteboard is a place to write down memorable things the people around you have said. The parts we author — the interface, the wording, the artwork and the themes — contain no violence, no profanity, no sexual content, no gambling, no simulated gambling, no alcohol, tobacco or drug references, and no horror or mature themes. There is no advertising, no in-app purchasing, and no third-party ad network that could introduce content we don't control.
Taken on its own, that material would be suitable for all ages.
Why the rating is 13+ anyway
Nearly everything a person sees in MyQuoteboard is user-generated: quotes, speaker names, the short context notes attached to a quote, comments, profile names, bios and profile photos. All of it is written or uploaded by other people.
We do not pre-screen or filter that content, and we can't promise what any given person will post. A quote is a verbatim record of something somebody said out loud, so it can contain profanity or adult subject matter even when the person posting it means no harm. Because we cannot guarantee what will appear, we do not consider the app appropriate for children under 13, and our Terms of Service require account holders to be 13 or older.
What limits exposure
These are the controls that actually exist in the app today:
- Quotes default to friends-only. A new quote is visible only to people the author has accepted as friends unless they deliberately choose to make it public, so most content is shared within a small, mutually-approved group rather than broadcast.
- Friendship is mutual and must be accepted. Nobody can put content in front of you, or tag you as a speaker, without you first accepting them.
- You can remove a tag. If someone attributes a quote to you, you can detach yourself from it.
- You control your own connections. Follows and friendships can be ended at any time.
- Our Terms prohibit objectionable content — harassment, hate, threats, sexual content, and anything sexualising a minor — and we remove content and suspend accounts that break those rules.
Reporting something
Anyone can ask us to review or remove content, including people who don't have an account and aren't named in it. Use our contact form or email privacy@myquoteboard.com. We review every report and remove content that breaks our Terms.
This matters particularly because quotes often record things said by people who don't use MyQuoteboard — frequently children in the poster's family. If a quote names you or your child and you want it gone, tell us and we will remove it. You do not need an account to ask.
